Its that time of year again when noses start to run, coughs start demanding attention and our children sometimes don’t feel their best. Students who are ill must be kept home until they have recovered sufficiently to return to the regular routine of school. When a child is too sick to go outside to recess or participate in physical education, that child is too sick to be at school. A student is clear to return to school when:
- They have been fever free (without using medication to lower their temperature) for 24 hours prior to their return.
- They are able to participate comfortably in class activities without a cough or other symptoms becoming a disruption to themselves or others.
- They are free of gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting for 24 hours.
- If they have a skin rash, they must be seen by their healthcare provider and provide written clearance prior to returning to school.
